In this section you will find many resource links and downloads that will help employers and employees in understanding the issues facing lone workers as well as aid in building the business case for the implementation of a lone worker protection solution.

Unions
GMB

The GMB positions itself as Britain's General Union, with over 600,000 members coming from every type of job and sector in the UK economy.  They have written a number of publications that focus on the issues of lone working and violence at work.

Unison

UNISON is Britain's biggest trade union with more than 1.3 million members. Their members are people working in the public services, for private contractors providing public services and in the essential utilities.  Unison have produced a health and safety guide to lone working.

Transport & General Workers Union

With over 800,000 members in every type of workplace the T&G is the UK's biggest general union.  Their position on lone working is included in the Health and Safety FAQ page on their web site.

Trade organisations
British Security Industry Association

The British Security Industry Association is the professional trade association for the security industry in the UK. One element of its role is in ensuring its members provide the highest possible standard of products and services.

The BSIA have put together a document as a guideline to the ACPO requirements in their Ten Point Plan at Appendix T of the ACPO Security Systems Policy.  It details the requirements for manufacturers to design compliant equipment and clarifies the requirements for installers and suppliers of hold-up equipment including panic alarms.

Federation of Small Businesses

The FSB is the largest campaigning pressure group promoting and protecting the interests of the self-employed and owners of small firms.  One survey, "Cracking Business Crime" includes figures for assaults on the owners of small businesses.

Police
Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO)

The Association of Chief Police Officers is an independent , professionally led strategic body that leads and coordinates the direction and development of the police service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  In particular, they set guidelines for the police response to security alerts, including panic alarms.

Government
Health and Safety Executive

The Health and Safety Commission is responsible for health and safety regulation in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive and local government are the enforcing authorities who work in support of the Commission.

Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007

On July 26th 2007, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 was granted Royal Assent and will become law in April 2008. The Home Office produce a regular survey of crime in the UK.

The Home Office's Business Crime minisite includes information and statistics relating to business crime.

Suzy Lamplugh Trust

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust is the only UK charity entirely devoted to providing everyone in society with the practical support and personal safety guidance they need to reduce their fear of crime and develop skills and strategies for keeping themselves safe.

International Labour Organisation (ILO)

The ILO takes a particular interest in the reduction of violence at work internationally, through their SafeWork programme.
